I’ve always wanted to run my own business but never had a clue what I could actually do until I was forced to make a career choice last year…. find another paid job or strike out on my own. The latter won hands down and I was lucky enough that I had my Chartered Management Accounting qualification to utilise, along with my 20 years experience in industry. I hope therefore to offer a common sense corporate approach to helping small business owners in Doncaster and South Yorkshire grow their business by prudent decision-making.
What are the motivations for today’s entrepreneurs continuing to run their own business after start-up? In a recent survey of small businesses 50% of respondents cited being their own boss as the main advantage of owning or managing a small business rather than pursuing a career in a larger organisation. 39% also stated that flexible working hours were important with 29% feeling that being able to be more creative and/or innovative was the advantage.
Only 27% of respondents stated that there was an opportunity to earn more money as owner/managers, so it seems that we’re not always in it for the money, we like the flexibility and opportunity that working for yourself brings, what are the motivations for you?
